My daughter did not pay tax in Nepal, how do I go about it now?

My daughter (a French citizen) did an internship in a Dutch think-tank in Nepal in 2021 and then worked with another an investment bank called Nepal Investment Bank for a year or so more. She was on work visa. For this reason she also acquired a Nepali PAN card. I have just come to know that she did not pay any tax for the money she earned in Nepal (40,00,000 Nepali Rupees over two years). Her employer too did not deduct any tax.

I would be really grateful if someone can guide me on how can one pay tax (one year backdates, and the last financial year). Absolutely any inputs are welcome.

  1. Are you sure her employer did not deduct taxes? Most paychecks in Nepal come with the tax deducted. I would assume that a bank like NIBL would especially make sure to do that. Also, can I ask how your daughter went from interning at a thinktank to working at a bank and making 20 lakhs a year. That is a pretty big salary for most Nepali people.

  2. There is a lot of bureaucratic hurdle to go through to pay taxes. It is better for you if you hire a Nepali auditor. He will do all the work for you; you just have to pay a small fee. You can google Nepalese auditors who work in Kathmandu; you will find plenty of them.

  3. I am 99.9% sure her employer deposited salary after deducting taxes. It’s even listed in receivers bank with note of tax deducted at source. Quick way to verify is to visit tax office and get tax fillings using PAN card.

  4. Please make absolutely sure that employer didn’t pay tax. Her second job is a bank so they deduct tax automatically and only give amount to employer after taxes. Something similar should happen in her first job as well.
