After TikTok, I’d actually not be surprised if ‘they’ attacked channels like ‘The Nepali Comment’, ‘In depth Story’, ‘Project Kura’, etc. TikTok ban hannu is just a show case for the grown ups to flex their power hammer against the Youths. Banning TikTok and letting the geezers win was a massive blow for us who are waiting for change in politics. TikTok was the one of the best cards we youth had against these power players.
Facebook hard nails popular pages like ‘RONB’ and others on our feed, which makes it really easy for the rich to manipulate what’s heard and what’s not. It’s very easy to bribe a single page, while TikTok can’t disappoint us with it’s ever changing channels and feed. Main handle we lost is the ‘**Reach’**. Through tiktok famous upcoming channels and entrepreneurs like YouTube channels, Youth politicians will have to primitively advertise themselves which will cause a massive roadblock. Many Youth Politicians and quality YouTube channels do not have enough finance to compete with the oligarchs. Let’s try not bringing obvious TikTok cons into this, alikati common sense bhayeko youth don’t do anything that performs ‘sanskriti bikriti’. And yes ‘Sanskriti bikriti’ is the major reason for banning tiktok, which in my opinion is obviously not the case.

I think this will be reversed. Taking the US approach by banning government devices should be the way to go if the productivity in the government sector is clubbed with security concerns. The private sector should decide themselves and parents decide for kids.Free speech should not be directly banned, the government can however monitor the content.
I opened reddit and wanted to write something like this. Tiktok’s algorithm is designed in such a way that if a lot of people like the content or is favorable to the mass, it becomes viral. Tiktok usually is unbiased. Meta and Google on the other hand, is not (I have been working on social media for the past 10 to 15 years). We need our freedom of speech back!

Tiktok had a lot of gullible and misleading contents, short clips off some interviews/talks etc were being wrongly used to mislead the public. I think the country should come up with it’s own social media, one that is linked with your registered sim, where issues related to cyberbullying and harassing can be immediately checked and addressed. Tiktok had been trash at times and tbh, Facebook Insta are much much worse. Fake IDs has been a bigger issue on Facebook as well.

This all comes down do how much people are aware either they can be easily radicalized or not. Every platform uses such sentiments and feeds the same thing. Then the only long term solution is to make people very aware. Ideal platform for free speech is that which is open source and every views is respected and not moderated heavily. If you go on route of banning then it is biased no matter what and government should not choose which is good and bad for society. History tells how that has gone. The only concern is what if they start banning other things that they apparently deem as inappropriate.

Tiktok uses some shady tricks..it locks you to your region via secretly reading your simcard number. Then you can’t even use a vpn, then it also locks the cache that you developed on your phone, it screenshots the keyboard clipboard, it’s in built browser tracks everything…..
But , the major influence that TikTok has had in nepal is western culture. Because usa uses shitton of TikTok, especially the teenagers. Edgy teens ..that how TikTok build it self up. And were exporting this culture of video sharing in bite-sized-attention-grabbing packets of video that once you pop you can’t stop. Anything from clipping a foreign movie, and pasting it to tiktok, people doing stupid stuff for tiktok live, and of course the tits and ass…the girls mentality is soo ruined by tiktok.
Because it’s comparitively EASIER to make it viral on TikTok than on insta, youtube, etc because tiktok algorithm depends on those shady tactics. It started as a fluke.

You spend 20 years blowing up schools not letting kids go to school. These kids grow up without the ability to tell the difference between right and wrong. A majority of the young population grew up during the sankraman kal seeing the very fabric of society tearing apart.

The biggest problem with tiktok was its algorithm, which makes any type of content viral if it’s favorable to the mass. I’ve hardly met anyone who uses tiktok as a “News Source.” Absolute dogshit content is being promoted, and a lot of people are being sucked into it. Even in my room (6 Males, 20-23 ) 5 of them use tiktok and have never seen any of them sharing any kind of useful News that they got from tiktok, they only thing they are sharing is thirst trap videos. They spend hours scrolling through gibberish content, and I’m sure a lot of our Nepalese folks do the same. I don’t know a lot of Tiktok creators who actually create useful content that requires at least some level of skills . Government le tiktok ban garenu ramro naramro k ho bistari tha hunxa, but in my perspective, a lot of degenerative content is stopping, and i think that is a good thing too. You guys are missing a crucial point here. The ban, It’s got nothing to do with promiscuous dances, conspiracy theories, deepfakes, whatever. Here’s the real reason tiktok is being banned in Nepal and why the gov should’ve done it earlier.
Few months ago, Sheetal Pandey, a lawyer, went to a talk show interview and talked about (maybe in a tonedeaf way) that Tamang/Magar people do allow marriages between 1st cousins. Pandey being a chettri herself, in communities like Newar, Chettri, madhesh, etc Cousins are also considered ‘dai/bhai, dijju/baini’ even if they’rnt literal sibling. So Sheetal Pandey pointed out that it was a weird culture shock to her and that such culture will lead to inbred babies.
That video, posted to youtube, got resurfaced in Tiktok. Tiktok is notoriously a copy-clip-paste zone, so the tamang people got outraged.
Fast-forward a week or so later after the Pandey interview, she got death threats, there were violent protests, hatespeech but then it was the monsoon season, so the tamang, magar, gurung community eventually let it go.
Now where do you think these people went to vent out the anger.? Answer: Tiktok posts and comments. I have 1st hand experiences of toxic comments hating on Baunchettris by the tamang, magar, limbu people. …and one tamang guy even burned the nepali flag for a tiktok. And then conditions slowly turned into ‘cow meat should’ve been legal in nepal’. …
Don’t you see what’s happening because of tiktok. The tamang, rai, limbu, magar, gurung…all are starting to want to separate from nepal..they have huge resentment that they’re pouring in to the hindu communities.

Not being able to watch content on demand, is a huge win for people who want to spread propaganda. The “For you” page feeds you content based on your recent activity. You can’t control what you see there, its all decided by some algorithm. A perfect way to spread any propaganda.
In case of Facebook, you can atleast unfollow a page if you don’t like its content. Can’t say the same about tiktok. You’re shown videos from the pages you don’t even follow.
Purely based on propaganda spreading potential, tiktok has way higher potential than any other platform solely because you can’t control what comes in yout fyp.
