The 5th National Honey Fair kicks off in Kathmandu on Wednesday, advocating the health benefits of consuming honey daily for a long and healthy life.
At a press conference held on Tuesday, honey producers highlighted the significance of the fair in promoting awareness about the advantages of honey consumption.
Subhash Chandra Ghimire, President of Nepal Beekeeper Federation, expressed the festival’s objective to bridge honey producers with both domestic and international markets, emphasizing the need to tap into potential markets.
Similarly, Bhojraj Sapkota, Head of the Commercial Kit Development Centre, emphasized the fair’s role in addressing sectoral challenges, noting that Nepali honey, renowned as the best in the world, struggles to secure a reliable market.
Janukadevi Thapa, President of Nepal Beekeeping Central Cooperative Association, lamented the lack of government support and information dissemination regarding facilities and incentives for honey farmers, despite Nepal’s immense potential in honey production, consumption, and export.
Umesh Prasad Singh, President of the Federation of Nepal Household and Small Industries, assured cooperation in resolving business hurdles in honey production, underscoring the federation’s readiness to assist.
The honey fair, slated from May 8 to May 13 in Kathmandu, coincides with the “17th International Industrial Trade Fair,” offering producers a platform to engage with sellers and consumers alike.
The event aims to showcase honey extraction techniques, disseminate honey-related information, and exhibit the latest beekeeping technologies. It also includes stakeholder interactions, seminars, cultural performances, and honey tastings from diverse sources.
Previously, the federation organized two honey fairs in Chitwan, while one took place in Kathmandu under the auspices of the Honey Traders Association and Nepal Beekeeping Central Cooperative Association.
Harihar Thapa, Rajendraman Shrestha (General Secretary of Nepal Household and Small Industries Federation), Member Narayan Karki, Uma Khatri (Vice President of Nepal Beekeepers Federation), and others contributed to the press conference discussions.
