Kathmandu is gearing up to host the 17th Nepal-China (Tibet) Economic and Trade Fair from April 29 to May 3, 2024. Organized as per the agreement between the Government of Nepal and the Department of Commerce of Tibet Autonomous Region of China, this biennial event aims to further strengthen economic and trade relations between the two nations.
According to Sarad Bickram Rana, Executive Director of the Trade and Export Promotion Centre (TEPC) under the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies, the fair was originally scheduled to take place in Nepal before 2020 but was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The main objective of the fair is to expand bilateral economic and trade ties between Nepal and China’s Tibet Autonomous Region. Approximately 120 business representatives, including a high-level delegation led by Vice President Lang Fukuan of the Tibet Autonomous Region of China, will participate in the event.
The fair will feature 50 stalls from the Tibet Autonomous Region, showcasing a diverse range of products, including traditional herbs, agricultural products, modern agricultural tools, tea, electrical appliances, household appliances, carpets, beverages, traditional handicrafts, and electric vehicles.
Nepal, on the other hand, will have 15 stalls displaying products from various companies, such as herbs, essential oils, coffee, tea, handicrafts, carpentry, metalwork, carpets, and pashmina. TEPC’s Rana stated that Nepal aims to highlight its tea and coffee products, considering the high potential for exporting these goods to Tibet.
While the primary focus of the trade fair is not solely on increasing transactions, it serves as a crucial platform for promoting goods from both countries and fostering discussions among businessmen, government officials, and stakeholders from Nepal and China’s Tibet Autonomous Region.
The fair, which will be open from 10 am to 6 pm, offers free entry to visitors, providing a unique opportunity to explore the diverse range of products and forge new business partnerships between Nepal and China’s Tibet Autonomous Region.
