I recently met a guy from uttarakhand her surname was Mahara(मेहरा) i ask is he related to mahr community of maharashtra and how he reached uk he deniy the fact and says he belongs toe a chhetri surname can anyone care to explain is he right or just making and he is general category.

If it’s महरा do not get confused with मेहरा like Rohit mehera from kohi milgaya it’s different And as far as I know yes महरा’s are chettris.

Mahara is Chhetri surname in nepal…you can also find them in uttarakhand ..they call themself pahadi rajput in uttarakhand…mehra surname is generally not found in nepal but it is a common surname in uttarakhand among pahadi rajputs …mahar from maharastra are different , they are considered dalits..
