I think the situation in Nepal is a lot better than 10 or 20 years ago. (Haven’t heard the derogatory word “Xhakka” in a while these days.) Conservative people will of course treat you with scorn but youths, specially those educated and well-adapted to the modern mindset will be acceptable. Males are more likely to bully or shun you, females generally support lgbt, as far as I know.
I once had a talk with a gay man. He said that his father had a hard time coming to terms with his sexuality. Everyone else was on board. He’s a model these days and pretty famous too.
Im 20 too and i think I’ll never come out.

I am 18F bi and when I came out most of the response were like…”oh are you? ohh okay” nothing more than that…. idk why but I felt good when they said that
I made my mom wish me pride month around 2 years ago, quarantine time ma when I was in my village. She didn’t know what it meant but did it. Then I proceeded to tell her what it meant and told her I’m pan so I like people regardless of their gender. My mom gave me a mean eye and told me to stfu and stop joking cuz that’s bullshit. I tried to talk to her again but she blatantly brushed me off and ignored the topic. Meanwhile my younger brother goes “ew ur a lesbian.” I haven’t mentioned it since then.
My mom prob thinks I was joking to get a reaction out of her cuz I’m always joking around with her. I know they’re not gonna accept if they find out I am in fact queer. I’m out to 4 people seriously and one of them is sometimes disturbed by the fact that I like girls too if I bring up the topic. So I don’t talk about it much. I’m not really closeted but I’m not completely open about it either. If anyone asks me, I’ll answer them. But I guess it’s better for me considering there’s a lot of homophobes in my class.
One of my friends came out last year(we were in 12th), and I was happy for them. Now, when we meet they think that they should have at least waited a few more years. It was brave of them to come out but there is still a social unacceptance in Nepal.

i haven’t came out yet to anyone except some very close friends unfortunately. I know that pahila bhanda ahile ko response is very good regarding LGBTQ but it’s still extremely risky to come out openly. take saroj tamang/nikisha for example, they became national memes for just wanting to be themselves

i came out of my dungeon after 87 years of hibernation in my room. It was a very magnificent view outside, though very unbearably bright.
As far as I understand people treat queer people well, at least the newer generation but some people will talk shit about you behind your back. Homophobia is instilled in our culture. You really can’t fit into certain circles if you openly shun homophobic insults and such if you’re a straight man. But girls are generally very supportive of their queer friends. It’s pretty much the same to a certain degree, people will talk shit behind your back regardless of your sexual preferences but being queer gives them easy ammunition.
