I have completed high school and am planning to take the IELTS test next month, as suggested by my parents and friends.
I want to stay in Nepal, get a job, and continue my studies simultaneously. However, I’m afraid of being left behind because everyone from my high school, friends, and people my age is in the process of going abroad. I had planned for my future, but societal expectations have blended with my thoughts, making me believe that there are no opportunities or a future here.
What should I do?

It doesn’t matter what your friends are doing it’s that simple. If you’re confident enough that staying in Nepal and getting a degree in Nepal is gonna guarantee you a bag(which won’t )do that but don’t regret it afterwards like my friends did . Mfrs blame it on me “malai kina bhaninas” when the whole time I was telling these dumb fucks the lifestyle west guarantees you
10 years ma timle kei garna sakenau bane then compare yourself with people jo abroad gayo aile… abroad gako manxe sabai jana successful huncha vanne xaina ni… timi nagaye pani 10 years ma uniharu banda badi professionally ramro pani ta huna sakxau… just don’t stop working for your dreams.
Let me tell you my story. While many of my friends went abroad for study, I stayed in Nepal. Here, I graduated from good university with good marks, also I learnt how to use various software useful in my field. After graduation, I applied 100s of jobs (and am still applying) but many companies don’t invite for an interview, and the companies that called me for interview didn’t offered me decent salary despite having good skills that were valuable for the company. I feel there is too much nepotism and wage theft.
Since its been 5 years since my graduation, it hurts me that my friends are abroad, earning more amount in one day there, than i earn here in 1 month. I regret my own decision, that I stayed in Nepal. I wish I had gone abroad after +2. Its frustrating to even think about this.
So, I will suggest you that going abroad after +2 will be better option, than staying here. Also, i forgot to mention that in foreign countries you can earn decent amount doing part time jobs as well as studying in decent university.
As an individual who had similar issue may be my story will help you. After +2 all of my friends wanted to go aboard, while I was having Fear of missing out I decided to study bachelor in Nepal.
I was always an average student, after completing Bachelor in pharmacy, I was luck to get job. My income was low the beginning, but slowly my salary was increasing and began to think I will not go aboard. However, I faced a hard reality after working for 3 years in Nepal that my income was no where near for me to have comfortable life. (During my 3 years I worked very hard did a lot of overtime and save as much as I could, I was confident that my skills in my profession was above average).
I made a decision to go aboard, with a lot of loan and my little saving I was studying Master in Aboard. Life in Aboard is different than what we might have an idea, student life is full of struggle. On top of that, if you do not have a mature mind depression is the first thing you will get.
In the meantime, when I was studying master my old +2 friend where still struggling only few had settled. After completing my masters every one told me you cannot get a job in your field and you life will always end up doing low-wage job.
Against all odd, I did not listen to anyone. I used my bachelor degree from Nepal and applied job in my field. After few weeks I was able to get interview. The first question they asked me was ” Tell me your daily routine in your work in Nepali industry and one problem you solved”. I answered with confident with my work related knowledge. And rest is history, It took me 3.5 years to permanently settle in Aboard. Presently, working in Management level.

My reflection: If I had not study bachelor and got experience with operating very sophisticated equipment there was not change I could be where I am.
You can go now or you can go later. But unless youre inheriting a good amount of property youll realise its hard to stay. Ek choti ko jindagi ma gwagon na chalaune ho vane nepal basa.
As someone who did what you wanted to do, esko pros and cons dubai chha
I stayed, built a career and now earn a decent amount above 50k per month. So impossible nai nahunu chai pros ho.
The cons is the system here sucks. With an income of 50k I can save very little money, family ko rent, bhai ko fees and atti inflated living costs mean aba I have decided going abroad is the only option left for me 🙁
