Miss Brazil 2018 Gleycy Correia Underwent Tonsil Surgery, She Ended Up in a Coma and Died of Kidney Failure.

Gleycy Correia, Miss United Continents Brazil 2018, died on Monday, months after undergoing a tonsillectomy. She was 27 years old at the time.

Correia, who worked as a beautician and model, suffered a hemorrhage and then fell into a coma five days after receiving the routine procedure, according to the Washington Post. According to reports, she never regained consciousness and died from kidney failure over a period of more than two months.

We are deeply saddened by this loss,” the family pastor Lidiane Alves said in a statement to a local media outlet. “Everyone had a great deal of respect and admiration for her. It’ll be difficult to go on without her bright smile and radiant light.”

Alves added, “My heart is in pieces.”

According to the Mayo Clinic, a tonsillectomy is typically an outpatient procedure that requires general anesthesia. Between ten days and two weeks is typical recovery time.

According to the Washington Post, the mortality rate for the procedure is between one in 10,000 and one in 40,000.

The Miss United Continents Organization expressed its sorrow over Correia’s passing by posting a series of tributes to her on social media.

“A beautiful young lady with such joy for life,” said the spokesperson, according to E! News.

Her family is in my thoughts and prayers at this time,” the spokesperson said, adding that Correia was a “beauty, smart and sweet girl who leaves us with the happiest memories that will ever be held in this organization.”

According to the Washington Post, she was also crowned Miss Costa del Sol in 2018 after winning Miss United Continents Brazil.

As a member of her local church, Correia also had a strong belief in God.

After her death, her family posted a picture of Correia embracing Jesus on Instagram, according to the Washington Post. ​​
