The $50 million case was tried in Fairfax, Virginia, and won by Johnny. Now, a Saudi Arabian man has proposed to marry Amber after she lost the case. The man even sent Amber a voice message on Instagram and compared himself to “old man” Johnny Depp.
In the internet-circulating voice note, the man can be heard saying, “Amber, since all doors are closing on you, you have no one to care for you but me. I’ve observed that some individuals dislike and bully you, so I’ve decided to marry you. May Allah bless both of us. You are a blessing, but few people recognize this. I am superior to that old man.
The 34-year-old sister of Amber Heard, Whitney Henriquez, spoke out after the actress lost the defamation trial against her ex-husband, Johnny Depp. Three days after the jury rendered its verdict, Whitney, who testified in support of Amber, 36, during the trial, issued a statement on Instagram. Whitney wrote, “I continue to support you, sis.” “Yesterday, today, and tomorrow I will always be proud of you for standing up for yourself, for testifying both here in Virginia and in the United Kingdom, and for being the voice of so many who are unable to speak out against the things that occur behind closed doors.”
Whitney continued, “We knew this would be a difficult battle and that the deck was stacked against us. Nevertheless, you stood up and spoke out. I am so honored to be able to testify on your behalf, and I would do it a million times over because I know what I saw and because the truth will always be on your side. I regret that it was not reflected in this jury’s verdict, but I will never give up on you, and neither will anyone who supports you. Forever by your side.” Whitney concluded her message with the hashtag “#istandwithamberheard,” which has been used by supporters of the Aquaman actress on social media.
Throughout the trial’s duration in Fairfax County, Virginia, Amber was accompanied by her sister. She was present on June 1 when a jury of seven determined that Amber’s 2018 opinion piece for The Washington Post was indeed defamatory against Johnny. Whitney was called to the stand on May 18 and testified that she observed bruises on her sister during Amber’s 58-year-old husband Johnny’s marriage.
“Amber has worked so diligently to overcome everything she endured during their relationship. Whitney stated in court that her famous sister “began having panic attacks” when Amber was with the Pirates of the Caribbean actor and that she has “done her best” to move on. When she was called as a witness in Johnny’s 2020 lawsuit against The Sun, Whitney made the same claims.
Amber must pay her ex-husband $10.4 million in compensatory damages because she lost the trial. Amber, according to her attorney Elaine Charlson Bredehoft, cannot afford to do so, and she intends to appeal the jury’s decision. The verdict awarded Amber $2 million for a defamatory statement made by Adam Waldman, Johnny’s attorney, against Amber. Amber issued a statement following the reading of the verdict, expressing her “heartbreak” and stating that the decision “reverses the clock” for women who report alleged abuse.
