Barun Hydropower Faces Losses in Q3 Report

Insights into Barun Hydropower's Financial Challenges and the Impact of Natural Disasters

Barun Hydropower Company (BARUN) recently released its third-quarter report for the current fiscal year, revealing a concerning financial setback.

According to the report, BARUN incurred a significant loss during this period, amounting to Rs 49.2 million. This marks a stark contrast to the net profit of Rs 14.2 million earned during the same period last fiscal year.

The primary reason behind this loss can be attributed to the damage inflicted upon the Hewa Khola Sana Jalvidhyut Project by a flood on 2080/Ashad 2, which adversely impacted the company’s operations and revenue streams.

With a paid-up capital of Rs 525.8 million, BARUN also recorded other equity losses amounting to Rs 30.8 million, further exacerbating its financial woes.

Per-share metrics paint a grim picture, with BARUN reporting a Loss Per Share (LPS) of Rs 12.27 and a Net Worth Per Share of Rs 102.41, reflecting the extent of the company’s challenges.

Despite these setbacks, BARUN remains committed to overcoming its current difficulties and restoring profitability in the long term.
