Nepali Hydropower Giant Chilime Reports Drop in Earnings and Net Profit for Third Quarter

Chilime Hydropower Company (CHCL), one of Nepal’s leading hydropower companies, has released its third-quarter report for the current fiscal year, revealing a decline in both sales income and net profit compared to the corresponding period of the previous fiscal year.

According to the company’s report, CHCL’s sales income for the review period stood at Rs 782.5 million, a decrease of 2.70 percent from the Rs 804.2 million recorded in the same period last year. This decline in sales income, coupled with a reduction in financial income, has contributed to the company’s lower net profit figures.

During the third quarter, CHCL’s net profit dipped by 10.97 percent, falling from Rs 528.9 million in the previous year to Rs 470.9 million. This downturn in profitability has raised concerns among investors and stakeholders within Nepal’s hydropower industry.

Despite the challenging quarter, Chilime Hydropower Company remains a formidable player in the Nepali market, boasting a paid-up capital of Rs 7.98 billion and retained earnings of Rs 2.62 billion. The company’s financial indicators show an Earnings Per Share (EPS) of Rs 7.86, a Price-to-Earnings (P/E) ratio of 58.31 times, and a net worth per share of Rs 132.93.

The decline in Chilime Hydropower’s performance can be attributed to various factors, including fluctuations in energy demand, operational challenges, and the overall economic landscape in Nepal. Analysts and industry experts suggest that the company may need to explore strategies to diversify its revenue streams, optimize operational efficiencies, and capitalize on emerging opportunities in the renewable energy sector.

Despite the temporary setback, the Nepali hydropower industry remains a vital contributor to the nation’s energy security and economic development. With the government’s continued emphasis on sustainable energy sources and infrastructure development, hydropower companies like Chilime are expected to play a crucial role in meeting Nepal’s growing energy demands.

Investors and market analysts will be closely monitoring Chilime Hydropower’s performance in the upcoming quarters, as the company strives to regain its momentum and deliver improved financial results. The hydropower industry’s resilience and ability to adapt to changing market conditions will be crucial in shaping its future trajectory and maintaining its position as a driving force in Nepal’s energy sector.
