The Nepali government has resolved the longstanding debate about embossed number plates by amending the law to allow the use of the Nepali language alongside English.
The Council of Ministers meeting on Monday decided to implement a policy that permits motorists to choose between Nepali and English on their embossed number plates by amending Schedule 2 of the Vehicle and Transport Management Act 2049. Government Spokesperson and Minister of Communication and Information Technology Rekha Sharma announced that the law was amended to avoid the cost of reprinting number plates in Nepali, as it had been traditionally printed in English.
This decision offers more choices for motorists and promotes the use of the Nepali language.
