Suggestions for a Budget-Friendly, Low Maintenance Scooter with Good Mileage - Student on a Tight Budget

I’m a student looking to invest in a scooter that’s both budget-friendly and won’t burn a hole in my pocket when it comes to maintenance costs. I want to have a reliable mode of transportation to get to my job on time without breaking the bank.

* I’ve been considering the Yamaha Ray ZR 125, but I’ve heard mixed reviews about its crazy vibrations and high maintenance costs.
* The TVS NTORQ 125 seems like a solid option, but I’ve been hesitant due to its reported lower mileage.

Are there any scooters you would recommend?
I’m not concerned about the style; my main focus is on practicality, reliability, good mileage, and low maintenance costs.

  1. I have a Ray Z and the vibrations are not that off putting for me. I prefer driving vs riding, so the scooter usually comes out around 20% of total commute a month and I haven’t faced any high maintenance. I clean it once a week on saturday/sunday and service it every 1000 kilometers. Working awesome for me. Total monthly revenue when I sold my car and used scooter everyday for a month was around 2500 NRS. The distance I regularly do is around 13 Kilometers one way which makes it 26 kilometres per day along with some detours. One average around 30 KM per day, 150 KM Per Week, 600 KM Per Month. If I calculate an average mileage of 40/Litre on fuel, I would need around 15 Litres to go a month which on an average of 182/Litre is Rs. 2730. Pretty economic I guess. Servicing is 3000 approximately every 2-3 months.

With that comes great pickup (I have traveled to Pokhara, Chitwan and Janakpur), great durability, great mileage, Mediocre headlights, spacious trunk and front leg area, great brakes, Mediocre mirrors (I hate the shape of the mirrors), a good digital meter and good seats.

  2. Commute matra ho vane go with EV. Price eutai cha, tel ra servicing ko paisa half.
    EV najane vane honda dio.
Ntorq sporty Scooter ho, mileage kam parts ko dam badhi.

  3. I’d suggest EV scooter but I’m not sure how budget friendly it is for you. EV scooters give a standard range of 80KM which is more than enough for a student and even light commute. Maintenance cost is almost negligible as long as you ride safely and don’t have to replace any major parts.

My sister’s EV scooter has been running since 2021 with no major or minor parts replacement. In all these years of riding, the electricity bill is less than 8k. It’s NIU NQI model.
