I left my job today, I felt cheated.

After 2 months of joining, today I got to know that the salary I was getting includes the fuel expenses and I do not own any vehicle.
I am the same guy who posted about that job where I was getting 20k as a fresher engineer.
Till today I was thinking of arranging any second-hand scooter and I could get fuel expenses. But, today I got to know that my salary already included fuel expenses, and my basic salary as an engineer was 15k less than the minimum wage announced by Govt.

Apart from that 10% of our salary was held back due to fewer sales in the company but we engineers had no any connection in company sales. Despite giving Dashain bonus, our salary was on hold.
Earlier I accepted the 20k salary as I am preparing for the Engineering Council license exam but I couldn’t continue in that company. In my first job, I experienced a lot and it ended within 2 months with a bitter experience.
Why do company owners think of their employees as their slaves?

  1. This is not a norm in Nepal but you should always ask for a written offer letter from your prospective employer before you begin working. Verbal agreement doesn’t have legal basis and always can be twisted. Find an employer who will invest on you as well since you are just starting your life in workforce. Regardless, I will take this as a learning lesson. Hopefully, this gives you an idea on how to negotiate your pay and benefits package in future. Lions gonna have few scars along the way. Good luck for your future!

  2. Khai yar! People are just selfish. Afu khau, afai lau, afai ramau mentality. Also there is job scarcity, many people fighting for the same job so that keeps the employers high and they feel like they can walk all over us and it’s okay. 🤧

  3. Good job OP! Toxic bosses and culture exist but don’t let it burn you down. I’m sure you will find something else that’s not as taxing on you. As for the business owner, they should be ashamed of such practice. No good engineer is going to stick out with them. It’d better to leave than to be treated like slaves.

  4. majority of company doesnt give TADA, unless you are actually going out in field.

if you are engineer, try canada or australia. get the skill assesment done. i heard even freshers getting positive skill assesment.

  5. I was offered 6k for three months(internship) 16k for next three months (trainee) 28k as a jr developer in one of the top IT companies of nepal (400+employees , sorry I can’t say the name) and I left within 2 months as I am working remotely now

  6. This is a common reality in many companies. Based on your past experiences, it’s important to be vigilant when considering new employment opportunities. When you’re being hired, ensure you have a clear understanding of how much of your salary will be credited to your personal account after tax deductions.

HR typically discusses the Gross Salary Offer during the hiring process. It’s advisable to inquire about the specifics of your offer letter, including the breakdown of your gross salary. For example, you can inquire about the allocation of funds to Social Security Fund (SSF) or Provident Fund (PF) and inquire about the details of tax deductions.

If the company is offering you additional benefits, it’s a good practice to clarify whether these benefits are included within the salary package or if they are provided as an extra amount.

Note: Don’t get excited about getting gross salary as there will be lots of deductions in your income amount
