Everything is Dead.

Everything is Dead.

My dad, a Sociologist (and a writer/lecturer) who in his 30s , rejected Canada PR ( 2006-7)at the last moment (changed his mind) despite being invited through the skilled entry scheme.

In the very same lot, many Nepalese researchers and professors, started their Canada dream with their families and a PR on arrival.

He has been very successful, well respected in his field, written many books and published research papers, presented them, and made some really good real estate and share investments making us thicc financially. “Everything seems fine, what is the issue?” you may ask.

Well as a man of social science who contributed 30 years in his field and chose to serve his country, and excel in life’s responsibilities being a good family man, he as never joined any Political party as a teacher and a social researcher (he also taught in TU part time as an field expert ). He said Political affiliation ruin teachers.

The main problem: He is in line to be a “Assistant Professor” from a “Lecturer”. It don’t pay any different but is rather a honorary term.

The Nepali Congress Youth Group or sth has vandalised offices and locked the Dean office ans well as interview spaces because they want to put their affiliated junior guy in the Professor position, instead of real people in line. That guy is severely under qualified and has no real life experience of Researching ( only a neta-teacher who is a Karyakarta).

1. They pay peanuts to researchers (aru afno financial progress afai gareko ho book royalties and timely investments). Sense of duty le baseka xan dherai. We are heading for a teacher shortage soon, just like with health professionals.

2. Frequent political threats and overtaking of duties at TU. This is the same department where they beat an lecturer last year (with rods). He almost died. He was an colleague. Those Congress boys are free and their case was taken back by Cher Bahadur.

3. >70% of all teachers here ( the biggest Uni TU) are politically placed Karyakartas who lack proper qualifications (only a degree tho). Life Threats and vandalism are common to non -political and non-affiliated professors.

Many of them non-affiliated one’s ( the one’s rejected from promotion)have studied in Germany, Japan and the USA and chose to return, just like my Dad, just to be suppressed and mistreated.

4. Why should any professionals stay here?

Look at that murderer being released a week back.

This is just an example. Our Sacred country is ruined, beyond repair. On life support.

Ma arko barsa desh xoddaixu. Peace.

  1. Exact same thing happed to my dad around the same time, he decided not to go to Canada. He is a government school teacher. He is multidisciplinary, has multiple master degrees. He is also well respected, very qualified and very passionate about his teaching. But, sometimes I feel like it haunts him that he didn’t leave Nepal many years ago. I hate to see when he has those moments- cause people like him should be treated better than they are rn. He almost seems tried of fighting for educational reforms-which is so not him.

  2. Hope he gets in the position instead of some political goon. My mom has been in a similar condition. Not that she got invited to Canada or anything great but the condition is pretty similar. I can only hope this doesn’t continue.

  3. My brother left the job of assistant professor in TU for Canada to do phd on another major. But time and again he express his regret with me on phone call.

Hearing this story i felt like he took a great decision.

  4. Nepal is a place where all hopes go to die. There is no way to live a decent dignified life in this place. The sooner we all realize this leave this place the better. Let them have this graveyard of a country to themselves. After all the good people leave maybe then they will fight among themselves and kill off each other like a pack of rabid hyenas. Maybe then the next generation or whoever takes over the country can build something new. Until that day comes better to just leave and never look back.

  5. this country’s a joke brothers and sisters. unless we have the guts to put these people out of the parliament, no good can come out of this country. jhole haru being the biggest degenerates.. irony is even jholes who exercised power and money during their time are fleeing the country these days. that is how fucked we are.

  6. Can your dad go and get PR now? It’s all in the past now.

Atleast when you go and get PR, you have a choice to stay or return. When Nepal becomes a Switzerland then definitely return.

If you don’t go then in the future when you want to, you might not be able to. Kk hola economy collapse k collapse

  7. I can feel for your dad. In his 30s and verge of being a Asst Professor is already a huge achievement. I have a few senior friends in Canada who immigrated 12 years back and were lecturing in different colleges at the time. That would have been the lot for your dad!
