Aboard vs Loksewa, career guidance

Aboard vs Loksewa, career guidance

Greetings to everyone,
Happy festives to all!

I belong to a lower middle class family from Terai. My home is of single floor with tiles for roof(the simplest house in my society of around 40-50 houses). For fooding, clothing, I never had any problems. My education mostly got covered through scholarships. My father serves a private job, probably underpaid, around 23k.
This society has taught me one thing, MONEY matters a lot, which in reality is also very true.
So, naturally I have aimed to uplift my economic status.
Currently, I am about graduate from a government engineering college at Lalitpur. I have a clear vision of pathway for abroad studies with scholarship and possibly working there itself.

So during these vacation guff’s, I was asked about future plans, and I shared about abroad plans(not with self finance[that’s impossible], but with scholarship). My father insists me to go with loksewa route (Rastra bank, Police, NTC, Adhikrit…) and settle here in Nepal itself. Also, he hinted more towards side incomes, basically under table money, a prevalent culture in Nepal.

I believe to thrive economically(being able to afford a quality life and any possible needs like medical facility, vacations…), in Nepal, I must put my self respect, values aside and practice corruption.
By being honest and practicing values, I can’t imagine surviving Nepal’s bureaucracy.

I aim to earn as much as I can and practice my engineering knowledge and learn and apply new technology and skills.

I am trying to have new perspectives (realistic, positive if exists?)regarding loksewa thing.
Will I ever make any serious use of engineering knowledge I have accumulated in Nepal in loksewa? Also Is it really satisfying, morally and economically in loksewa?

So, should I continue giving unwavering efforts for abroad or should I explore loksewa option as well.
Kindly suggest me your valuable insight.
Thank you.

  1. I won’t read your whole post, but chose abroad over anything. This might sound harsh but leaving Nepal is the only wise decision you can make. For those patriotic souls, don’t bother to start a argument with me

  2. I cant say if you can apply your engineering skills in Nepal’s scenario but can surely say you will get an opportunity to realize the worth of your accumulated knowledge abroad if you enroll into good USA university. Dont worry about leaving Nepal, you can always go back but I dont think you wanna miss the chance of being exposed to first world country abroad.

  3. As someone who is serving as an engineer at Nepal Electricity Authority after clearing my lok sewa exams, its frustrating to work in this country unless you have a very good political connection . The good thing is you have a secure job even though it pays you less, you can really serve the public to change the sluggishness of public service delivery however your work willl never be appreciated by management.
The downside is youll be frustrated, get used to the “system” , degrade your progressive thoughts and eventually settle for whatever it is.

  4. Bro aile corruption garna dherai nai garocha !Youtubey haru lai bolayera flash gardincha +fb reels tiktok sab ma aucha .Sahi batoma hide khasai quality life paudeinau hola chitai but tyo dar kaile hudeina.Afno self respect herahai bro pachi pachutauna naparos .Pailai dekhi corruption garchu lutchu bhanyeu hami youth harle bhane kaile banne desh,Timi hami jasto garib lai lutera k paucham?sochana .So esko fullstop bidesh ma gayera matra milcha quality life timle bhane jasto but mental peace chai garaicha bidesh ma.Dream rakha but slowly laga panic nagari mehenat gara

  5. I was also in same delima I’m in sydney now . I love it here. I have to work had but I’ll get used to it . Fuckit broo bidesh aaau . Everyone in my family works for government Baba adhikrit mami adhikrit Dada army captain. They wanted me to do same but fuck it

  6. Positive side is, if you are in higher posts you can corrupt and can earn millions. if you got lower posts, people already working there will pressurize you politically and mentally hindering your thinking ability. Even without corruption, minor mistakes while working will cost your job with your name is shamed in Gorkhapatra, and disqualify you for any government jobs in future. If your job placement is in rural areas then people will try show their brawn or beat you.

I have seen my friends who were frustrated after getting job in loksewa. None of my friends were happy. They left their job after few months and had gone abroad Japan, Australia, Germany, etc.

`Will I ever make any serious use of engineering knowledge I have accumulated in Nepal in loksewa?` Depends upon where is your job. Mostly you get managerial work like signing the documents, managing the clash in undergoing projects. once you get the job you will start questioning, “what am i doing with my life?”

`I aim to earn as much as I can and practice my engineering knowledge and learn and apply new technology and skills` Since you want to enhance your knowledge, it would be better you apply for working visa in Japan. You can work there for few years, and get exposure new technologies and have enough knowledge of practical engineering and have enough software skills which will help in further studies.

Note: For Japan, you can get in contact with IMAC engineering, Tripureshwor, Kathmandu. I know this because my friends have gone to Japan after graduation. You can attend the orientation class and know the details about respective oppurtunities in your engineering field
