There is no way we can compete our neighbors in a war like scenario, if there is a border dispute then it has to go through diplomatically else there is no chance. We might need few peace keeping/disaster relief forces for anything happening inside the country. Other than that it is just waste of taxpayers money to have such a huge army tbh.

The answer is simple. Yes we need a military. Sure we’d lose a war with india or china. But what if it was not india or china. What if a non state entity, say khampa rebels. What if khampa rebels took over mustang. Or 100 seperatists from north east india just walked into jhapa undetected and took it over. What do we do then? Do we let the chinese solve the khampa problem with their troops and do we let the indians solve the north east seperatist with theirs? And what if some radical communist group reject democracy and start and armed insurgency with the aim of establishing a dictatorship of the proletariat or whatever bullshit they call it to justify their regime? You know this shit happened last time right.
India and China arent the only actual threat. Theres also non state foreign actors. The khampa thing was something that happened to us not too long ago. And the north east seperratist was something that happened to bhutan. The bhutan thing made indian army enter bhutan btw. And finally theres also internal threats. A state like ours needs a strong centralized military because historically the state has face many insurgent movements. A reminder, the Maoist insurgency that started in 1996. In 1996 nepal was a democracy with a ceremonial monarch. So you should know that democracy isnt quite enough for a country as diverse as ours to satisfy every single individual/group
Do we need the military in its current structure though can be debated. It could be restructured for sure. More transparency, professionalism and downsizing could be done with more emphasis on its primary purpose ie to fight conflicts.
Thats like saying no use closing the door when u leave home cause thief always find a way to break in from the window
Bro you didn’t think about माओवादी जनयुद्ध? If there was no army at that the outcome would be worse.
You’d be surprised how much geopolitical support with gurilla warfare can do against a powerful country
NAH bro it is better to have then not to ……
real mei war vo vanay we will get foreign support ..lets say weapons, combat traininng they wont send there forces to fight our war….
MAIN KURA!!!!! EMPLOYMENT!!!!
DO YOU REALLY EXPECT THE CORRUPT POLICE TO PROTECT THE NATION???
if we go by your logic, why does any country except a few nuclear nations need an army? since nuclear bombs will destroy non-nuclear nations in a push of a button what’s the point of spending any money on the army?

It is a big business conglomerate who earns billions through government contracts, UN peace keeping programs and stuff. Gotta feed the rich man.

Why does any country have army? https://centredelas.org/actualitat/es-posible-un-pais-sin-ejercito/?lang=en#:~:text=Armies%20were%20first%20conceived%20to,deter%20attacks%20from%20other%20states.
The army does a lot for our country. Especially during emergencies. Let’s also not forget that our much smaller army frustrated the British imperial machine. Our army is there to defend us if needed and should an invasion come they will be there to protect us. Maybe they will lose but war isn’t always about who has the biggest…
