Living in rent

Living in rent

I am in Kathmandu to study bachaelors. I currently stay at hostel, but I think I can manage to rent a room at cheaper cost of living.
How do I go about it, and can you give me a tentative cost of expenses?
I currently spend about 12000 in hostel fee and about 2000 extra.

  1. I personally don’t think it’s either cheaper or easier. You also need to factor in that you’ll have to buy lots of things to start with when you move out. Monthly expenses are high, and suddenly, dinner, lunch, and breakfast become a job. You also need to pay for internet, the power bill, gas, water, and other things.

Not meaning to discourage you, I have done both (hostel and renting), and they both have pros and cons. My suggestion is that you move out of the hostel right at the end of the bachelor when your study load goes down. Find a place near your potential job.

  2. If there are 3 or more people living in a rented flat, its much cheaper.

At start you might have to invest since you will have to buy gas, bed, etc.

If you stay in a flat in Bhaktapur, the total cost will not be more than 16k including water and electricity. Get a cook for 5-6k month so you don’t have the problem of cooking. 1k/1.5k for wifi. And overall food cost around 6-8k per month, you can even get rice from home.

So, tentative cost of staying in a flat with 4 people will be around 31-35k. Compare that to a hostel where you stay 3 people in a small room and without freedom. I say staying in flat is much better.
