Did anyone of you ever had academic comeback?

Did anyone of you ever had academic comeback?

Okay so I have met this guy a few times who is cousin to my cousin. And my thulo mamu used to tell how bad he was in studies till 9th grade but than started to study very hard and got A+ in SEE and in +2. He even got full scholarship to study on USA, i exactly don’t know what he is studying ( i guess its related to tech) but during last year summer he was working in Microsoft as an intern

And also you might think that my thulo mamu had said badayara chadayra but as i mentioned earlier i have met him few times and he was genuinely really sweet and I even texted him once how he got scholarship for USA and he answered in such a nice way to so that i could understand. He is genuinely very sweet and down to earth kinda guy who deserved everything that he owned by his hardwork.

And also if you ever had done this kind of come back that please tell me how?

  1. Failed most of my way through later school days and throughout high school. Back paper ko pani back paper deko. Realised how I had wasted so much time and money. Joined bachelors, fast forward 4 years, got highest grade in my course across Nepal and the foreign university. (It was a foreign affiliated university degree.)

Gave the valedictorian speech. Dad never saw the whole thing coming. Mom cried tears of joy. First time I ever got flowers in my whole life. So surreal now that I think about it.

  2. I have found that we need to change our mindset for doing well in academics. Gotta study to understand for yourself, not for good marks.

Grades and jobs shouldn’t be a goal, just a consequence of good academics. You should work on slowly developing mindset of curiosity and just learning. You will do good.

  3. I’d like to share my story.

I was always this average/sub par kid. Barely passed till 9th grade. Then something changed. It wasn’t obvious then, but looking back at it today, it was one of the best thing that happened to me in school and college days.

I MET SOME GREAT FRIENDS. YEAP LITERALLY THIS !!

I was lucky to have great friends who helped me with my maths, science and pushed me/motivated me to study well, because of which I passed with flying colors in SLC.

Luckily again I somehow made into a good friend circle during high-school and college time as well. Was always top 5 in high school and topped almost every other semester during my bachelors with some exceptions. With this, working hard became like a habit which trickled down to my career as well.

All those things I guess stacked on top of each other and by the end of my bachelor’s degree I made it to the college toppers board (all time) and was also the highest paid fresh off college hire till date.

    Good days !! Damn!!

  4. Failed grade 7, worked hard on grade 8 loved science and maths, did good in SLC (or now SEE). Did very poor in I.Sc. (now +2), almost failed maths. Worked hard to get to IOE, started civil engineering. Almost failed multiple subjects in first 2 semesters, failed one on 3rd semester, worked hard, didn’t do too well until 6th semester. Did ok on 7th and 8th semester. Loved engineering after 7th semester. Did GRE and TOEFL, finished masters and PhD in the US. Now a good engineering job, but I’ve a licensing exam soon, hopefully I’ll pass!

  5. My story is quite different. I was mostly the 1st or 2nd rank in my class since Nursery to grade 7. Then in grade 8, my academic downfall was initiated. I got to carry my own phone, the internet was installed in my home and I got addicted to games and social media in that time period. Slowly my studious side became weak. From being a brilliant student, I failed for the first time in my life in grade 9 in O.Maths. As SEE was nearing, I had to work hard to get a decent grade. I got grade A in SEE hardly which I don’t consider good. Then in high school, I was listed in the top 10 of my batch among 700+ students in the first terminal examination and I got my rhythm back. Fast forward to the present, I am studying in KU school of management which is also known to be the best business school in Nepal, well at least that’s what the website says. I did have a comeback even though it’s not that great or applaudable but it’s about time. I am far from done.

  6. 70.2% in 11th to 83.4% in 12th. Then got accepted at IOE and also a top American university in the Middle East. Graduated Magna Cum Laude (3.956 GPA). Currently making about USD $75,000 a year, 16 months after graduation. Long way to go, but I’ve made some progress. Dm if you have any questions.

  7. So I absolutely hated physics numericals in class 10. Chose science in 11. Did alright in other part but couldn’t stand Mechanics. Sucked at it. Chose civil engineering. Civil engineering bhaneko purai mechanics raixa feri lol. Worked hard on it, started loving it. Now applying for master’s or PHD in structural dynamics(which is higher level mechanics). Decent comeback tbh

  8. From never passing my first and second term exams, my whole school life until 10, attempting my physics exam in grade 11 4th time) now i have a MIT in Networking and Network Security and hoping to start my Phd in Quantum computing.
I guess this is my comeback.

  9. Being forced to study vs Wanting to study.

Grade 9, 10 i was forced to study hard. My mind wasn’t on it.

Now i study 6,7 hours a day just because i like studying and learning.

Took me years to recover from Nepalese Education system, but i finally made it.

  10. I did SLC in 2005, Joined BE (computer) in 2008, I had 22 backlogs in 2012. I did nothing until 2016 and was at my peak downfall. Then thought of giving a shot again and joined BSc. IT in 2016, passed out in 2020. Started working as a programmer since 2020 (lockdown period) and currently work as Senior Software Developer in Australia based IT company and I earn good (in Nepal standards). If this qualifies as a comeback, thats mine.

  11. i was an average/ below average student till 8 th grade
ani ma 8 ma chai janne sathi sanga basna thale . 10 pass out vaye samma ma u sangai base . usle garda ali padhai ma sudhar vayo .
tei ho aafulai jasto manxele sorround garxan testai vainxa

aafno ni mehenat ho aafu le pani intrest diyera padnu parcha

  12. Slc 3.16
A levels garera sab ma E aako. Balla talla pass 3 4 marks le. Bio, chem, econ.
Bachelors ma nothing below 8 cgpa. All semesters. Last ma I hit 9 cgpa. Bachelors in design. I guess I wasn’t in the right place.

Paila parents grades le garda hairan. Now that I actually did well they don’t care cause marks ramro bhaera job paudaina. Hypocrisy ko peak ta eta cha.

  13. This fall semester exams went quite good this time. I answered based on my learning hope those fukers would understand my answer as all the answer were out nowhere from rote learning. If everything’s fine I’m gonna be the topper. Although, wish me a luck ! ! !

  14. This happens when your true passion is ur profession or study. I was really mediocre during my High school +2. I knew I loved engineering and tech, happened unintentionally. I am straight A+ student 3.86/4 CGPA. I mostly worked for startups after my graduation. During my grad study, I realized that I can work up to 16-18 hours a day without that fatigue (physical or mental). I have developed variants of deep learning models, published papers. I work as research engineer for startup. Hits my dopamine if the problem is exotic.

It’s not a braggadocio, but things are easier if we align love and living. Having said that, you should at least workout 3-5X a week. Eat healthy. Growth mindset. These are the most important asset for an individual.

  15. I have opposite story. Was good at maths, scored ok though nepali i never scored more than 50. Scored distinctions many times and all this without hardly studying. After SLC i just became lazy, i passed most of my exams till masters but with very low grade and minimum effort. I just can’t focus at all. I used to love math and was really good at it. But now no matter how hard i try, i simply cannot grasp even basic calculus or linear algebra concepts. 😢😢.

  16. My answers used to be of quality (at least I think so) but my handwriting was bad. Teachers in my school didn’t read the whole thing and judged it based on handwriting and thus I think I got screwed a lot till the 10th grade. My scores were like 90+ in math and science subjects and accounting and computer (where handwriting wasn’t used) and 60- in social, nepali, etc because I used to write my own answers and not just copy what the teacher had. That’s why I always thought I was a below average student until I got into a very restrictive high school after an entrance and wento to USA later on with a full scholarship and my SAT score was more than what my school’s topper got(I was not even in the top 100 in the school time). I don’t know if I improved during high school years but my money is on the fact that the topper had a better handwriting

  17. I never paid attention in school and skipped online classes through grades 8 and 9. Made a massive comeback in grade 10 and got a good GPA.

Currently doing well in my A Levels with what I’d consider a tough subject combination.

  18. Well mah chai 10 samma last guwach the padai ma , sabbai terminal ma fail hunthe . tara maile +2 ma esto padne sathi sanga sangat gare ki aja ma mero class(bachelor) ko 2nd topper hu lol .
