Follow the idea not the person: Balen case

As we have seen in recent years, many people have become ‘cult of personalities’. These are people everyone initially liked due to what they stood for. And later on they became more and more famous and almost omnipotent in some people’s eyes, and then it got worse. One example recently is Elon Musk. We liked that he was a pioneer in science, headed a company to build reusable rockets, a company that excels in electric vehicles. Then he started doing childish stuff with Twitter. Balen, in my opinion, also falls there. We liked the prospect of a person with an idea, who was not from mainstream politics, wanting to do some good for the country and city of Kathmandu in particular. Then we started being invested in the person rather than the idea. That is where the problem comes in my opinion. You can support someone without being okay with everything he does. No person is ever 100% correct. We need to be able to say ‘this is wrong ‘ for what is wrong and hold particular person accountable. Just because he is good in a field doesn’t make him an omnipotent figure, a god in some ways. Just because you like the fact that he is making Kathmandu a better place means that you also have to be happy with his antics against the government or his foreign policy. Overall, I still believe Balen is doing more good than bad, but some aspects are still worrying. Driving a government car in weekend and being angry for merely being stopped and questioned is ridiculous. Many of his cultists dislike the idea of government cars being driven by government employees for personal use, no less on public holidays. Apparently Balen doing the same doesn’t disappoint them. In those controversial decisions is a follower separated from a cultist. A cultist tries to defend their cult leader, while a follower of ideologies starts questioning his some particular decisions, whole also being praiseful of the other decision. Even with hitler, whom Balen has respect for, as seen in his previous interviews, German youths liked his attitude towards Germany, his feeling that Germany was treated unfairly after WW1, the current state of Germany, and started following his path. He later on started becoming more and more extreme. People who liked his initial ideas started becoming skeptical, but some people followed him even going as far as to catch the Jews and take them to gas chambers. I am not saying Balen is going to be like hitler, but giving an example of what following a person and making him an omnipotent figure who can do and say nothing wrong leads towards. Let’s all be followers and not cultists.

  1. The reason many people supported him and elected him as a mayor was that he will be different from the others. As a next generation of leaders if he is doing the same thing as the old ones then how is he different. We dislike old politicians because they misuse their powers and privileges. And it seems Balen did the same thing in this latest event. Doesn’t he have his own vehicle? Then why did he use the government car for personal use in holiday knowing it is not allowed. And instead of acknowledging, he is doubling down and making threats. His tweet doesn’t represent some vent coming from ordinary Nepali citizen but from a guy who broke the law and got caught. Also wasn’t he fined by election committee for not disclosing his election campaign expenses in time? Naksa ra street vendor ko kura ma chai law and order bhandai strict hune but when it comes to his own he wants do whatever he want?? Dude just seems to be living in his own bubble where he thinks he is Anil Kapoor of Nayak movie.

  2. I think he was angry because of his wife being pregnant. Which is valid.
But him being a mayor and writing such things in social media doesn’t help. But if someone stopped you in such an emergency it would certainly anger anyone enough to write such a thing.

But being a mayor and saying this doesn’t help his case much. But it may also be pent up frustration. With countless interference with his work by the people in singadurbar maybe he just erupted last night.

  3. I use my office laptop to do … other things. So i cant be mad when balen uses the government car on wekends tbh. Besides it could also potentially be ecological since he wont have to waste fuel on two cars hehe

  4. I love to see people making people in power more accountable and talking about stuff they do bad. Okay cha actions lau. Saturday sarkari gadi lagyo fine lagau. What i don’t like it, aja balen ta harka ko bare ma ta kura garchau but what about other politicians. Aru lae pani follow-up gara.

I know jun position ma cha ra jasari aggressive outlet gayo I don’t mind. Sadhai sabai manche sane rahadae nan sometimes you have to let the anger out, he chooses social media aba k garnu. A lot more people will come who will act this way and sabai lae justify gardae basna sakidae na.

All this fiasco is waste of time and diversion from important stuff. Yesto kura ma act garna pardae na if sigha durbar ma kehi vayo vane herau la. Focus on important matters.

  5. Balen Shah is Kathmandu’s kid with elite backing plus urban class-caste support for his political futures. Furthermore, he has Shah surname despite not hailing from Gorkha, and he is Hindu with heritage from both hills and plains Madhesh. So, your boy despite lacking everything about visionary politics has bright future ahead. He could be like Yogi of UP, India, the next contender for Prime Minister. Nepal could be again a hardcore Hindu land with Balen Shah as new prime minister of His Majesty’s Paras Shah.

Don’t get fretful about Balen Shah, his political is extremely well poised to reach top of the heights. At the moment, he is almost Modi of Nepal media.

  6. First able I totally disagree with the example you have given of Elon Musk. You have no ideas how biased is Twitter used to be before. It was controlled by far-left cultists who censored and suspend the account just by mentioning there was 2 genders. Twitter was a groom room for far left liberal hypocrites who loved to opposed and banned the people who have different political ideologies. Now, with the Elon musk taking over twitter, it has become a platform for all the people despite having different political ideologies. And talking about the government car, he took it as a emergency purpose as his wife was on the edge of giving birth to infant, I believed a mother and child is more important than a godamn traffic rules. He took government car as an emergency purpose as any loving husband would. And talking about Hitler, he never praised him nor followed him. He was just pointing out the obvious about how Hitler charismatically convinced the whole Germany. Charismatic behaviour sells votes in politics. You still have a long way to learn the actual politics bro. Learn progressives, conservatives, authoritarian, fascism etc.

  7. For the last many decades, we have seen cowards lick the backsides of each other and call it politics, *sahamati, sahakarya* and all that bs. Comes a person who is stern and does not go by the rules. The greatest strength of Balen is that he can call bs a bs and most people don’t like that.

We live is a society where the maharaj can walk naked (reference to an old folklore) but nobody would have the guts to call him out to say he’s naked. That’s the sad reality. What Balen would do in such a scenario: “O maharaj, put some clothes on! Your balls are showing.” And people wouldn’t like that. We’ve been seasoned and programmed to think like that. Not calling out is a problem. I really admire that Balen is someone who can publicly say –

    **SINGHADURBAR MA CHOR HARU BASCHAN.**

You know. I know. But nobody has the guts in the country to call this out.

Kudos to Balen. If he contests the elections, I will definitely vote him for PM.

  8. It appears that there are many assumptions being made here, and I’m uncertain about the root cause of the negative emotions. However, comparing Balen to Hitler seems like quite a stretch. It’s important to clarify that Balen never stated he was a fan of Hitler. Rather, he expressed amusement at Hitler’s ability to manipulate people into chaos. While I personally have witnessed Balen making questionable decisions, I acknowledge that he has also attempted to bring positive change to Kathmandu, something no one else has accomplished. Both Balen and figures like Elon Musk have inspired others, giving people like me hope that our country can overcome the challenges we have faced. I am supportive of Balen’s motivations and aspirations. It is crucial to separate this support from the notion of being part of a cult. I urge you to take a step back, refrain from creating false narratives about him, and try to approach this situation with a more level-headed perspective.

  9. basically halla nagari corruption gareko ramro tara halla garyo bhane chahi bad boiiiii okk
if u think u change the current state of this country with diplomacy please brother stand up in next election let your voices be heard esari ideology bolna sajilo cha implement garna garo cha u cant have a diplomatic talk with wild animal can you but if you still think yes balen is wrong and politicians are also wrong and u can solve it brother please make your voice heard and step up in the next election

i would rather take a guy who has done good but has no public speaking skill than corrupt politicians who butter talk and swoop away all our money
