We should be grateful

We should be grateful

I was watching a video on how North Korea has made it almost impossible to escape and how life is like in North Korea and it got me thinking how lucky we are to have been born in Nepal. Despite all the politics and the state of the cities and things like that, I feel so grateful that at least Nepal isn’t like North Korea in any way. Not only North Korea, but Iran, Saudi Arabia and such countries where you could be killed for something such as loving someone of the same gender.
I see a lot of posts here of people complaining about how this country isn’t good and such but I want to tell them to at least be grateful that you have the freedom to leave the country if you don’t like it here.
There could be many things that aren’t the best here but when you think about it, Nepal is really progressive for a South Asian country. We shouldn’t overlook the positive aspects of this country.

  1. I can see where you are coming from, but using North Korea as an example and asking people to be grateful because their country doesn’t kill their citizens for trying to leave is a bad argument and a terrible way to instill optimism.

One end of the spectrum is being overly nationalistic and saying that Nepal is the best country to live in and has no flaws whatsoever. The other end of the spectrum is saying that Nepal is the worst country ever and it is worse than North Korea and Syria. Ideally however one should be in the middle, not too pessimistic but discussing the issues of the country and actually understanding what they can do as a citizen to improve it (by electing the right leaders, paying taxes etc) and thereby showing their love towards it.

Is Nepal so bad that the mass exodus of youth is justified? Are they overreacting cowards? Or has Nepal’s government let them down so much that they feel leaving the country is better? I do not know as I am an outsider nor have I done any research. But extremist takes will get you nowhere. Try to do some research and form your own opinion. As I said, striving to improve the country by criticising it is optimal. Criticism shouldn’t be shut down by claiming that Nepal is better than North Korea or whatever. Compare something with better counterparts, not worse ones.

Only agree on this part , it has been very progressive so far. Many countries are forced to sacrifice Democracy, freedom because of Geo-Politics too .

  3. We are in a country which passed the exam with a grade of D+. If your family is descent, understanding and live close to major cities to inside major cities and have helpful relatives or at least have descent and helpful peoples then Its almost like living in a B/B+ level country. Else its not a country to be proud of. A lot things are problematic here.
My friend once said “Na pari taha paye dae na rahi cha”.
Timi hami are very lucky, sabai ko situation same chai na only right management and few decade of positive development could have made so much difference.

  4. Free housing, free healthcare, free education, you don’t have to work to death, every work is for betterment of society and not to make some asshole billionaire more rich, no bootlickers who eat boot polish as a breakfast like here in Nepal, like they eat boot of Chaudhary’s. Sure norrth korea has some flaws but our shit hole billionaires ass licker country is definitely not better than dprk.

  5. Do you know half of the thing that we hear about North Korea is a lie spread by western media.Yes you would be surprised but this is how western propaganda works.
And the infamous defector Naomi park is funded by US.You wouldn’t believe me but you can go through these videos that debunk the lies about North Korea.

  6. Why Saudi Arabs among the list.
In terms of prosperity, economy, development etc is far ahead compared to those countries in the list. Yeah, i agree with the strict rules and policies but there’s a proper rules and regulations.

Comparing country ruled by dictatorial and terrorism with a peaceful nepal is not suitable.

  7. Hawa comparision. North Korea sanga compare garera hunxa vanya?? Its like comparing earth with mars and saying “Look, you can eat ice-cream in earth, drink coke, and post shit on reddit which is not possible in Mars. So, be grateful”. Rather write “I feel grateful”. You trying to instill pseudo-optimism here on the internet is utterly useless.

Rather compare two places with similar possibilities. You comparing Nepal to North Korea is just like comparing Humans to Bacteria and none of these makes sense.
