Atul Keshap, Senior VP for South Asia at US Chamber of Commerce, Touches Down in Kathmandu
Atul Keshap, a prominent figure in the business and diplomatic circles, has arrived in Kathmandu to participate in the highly anticipated third Nepal Investment Summit scheduled for April 28-29. Keshap, a former American diplomat who has served as the US Ambassador to Sri Lanka and the Maldives, as well as the Deputy Head of the US Mission to India, is now actively involved with the US Chamber of Commerce.
With extensive experience in South Asia, Keshap has closely observed the region’s economic landscape and business climate. His presence at the Nepal Investment Summit holds great significance as he has been a staunch advocate for attracting American investment to Nepal on numerous occasions.
Instrumental in Establishing AmCham Nepal
According to Amir Raj Thapa, General Manager of the American Chamber of Commerce in Nepal (AmCham Nepal), Keshap played a pivotal role in establishing the organization in 2021 and securing recognition from the American Chamber of Commerce in November 2022.
“After the establishment of AmCham Nepal, his contributions were instrumental in securing recognition from the American Chamber of Commerce,” said Thapa, emphasizing the significance of this recognition in facilitating easier networking and fostering trust within the American Chamber of Commerce’s global network.
Boosting American Investment in Nepal
Thapa highlighted Keshap’s positive impact in lobbying for American investment in Nepal through various networks, expressing delight at his participation in the investment conference. “He has been supportive since the inception of AmCham. We believe his participation in the investment conference will send a positive message to American investors,” said Thapa.
Diplomatic Legacy and Expertise
As a seasoned diplomat, Keshap has been instrumental in strengthening US-India relations, advancing Civilian Nuclear Energy Cooperation, and expanding trilateral relations between America, India, and Japan. His expertise extends to multilateral engagements with organizations such as the European Union, United Nations, ASEAN, APEC, and regions like the Indo-Pacific, Middle East, Africa, North, and South America.
With his wealth of experience and influential position at the US Chamber of Commerce, Keshap’s presence at the Nepal Investment Summit is expected to bolster efforts to attract American investment and strengthen business ties between the two nations.
