Things that make you sad about being Nepali

Things that make you sad about being Nepali

We all know great things that make us proud being Nepali. But let’s think of things that make you go meh. Maybe we can tackle each issue one at a time for the betterment. Some things we may never see get better in our lifetimes but let’s keep our fingers crossed.

I’ll go first. Except for one near Pashupati temple in Kathmandu, there is not a single water treatment plant in the whole country. Most waste water get sent straight to river.

  1. DANGEROUS ROAD!

No-existance road safety practices makes Nepal a dangerous place to live ( and one of the reason we’re a third world country) for road users including pedestrians. Your life is on mercy of Pasupatinath when you are out of home.

Not a single day goes by without a major accident killing 10s of people and destroying families. Bike accidents are so common media don’t bother to report.

I wonder how long it’s gonna take for us to feel safe on the road. Probably never.

  2. Several are being built in riverside but yes it is not enough we need more. One thing that grind my gears is that we easily throw garbage and litter everywhere after a party or anything we leave it as it is whereas japanese clean up the mess and leave. It don’t matter if we keep the litter in our pocket or bag for a while no one will judge or care so next time when you feel like throwing just think of long term as well as broad impact over short term tidiness.

  3. We are poor. Dirt poor. Bureaucracy is crazy. There is no hope of us ever doing anything but riding in the coattails of India: another poor country.

War torn places are richer than us. Their infrastructure is better than ours.

We are poor, dirty and worst of all: hopeless. We dont manufacture anything, our biggest export is our labor. Its disheartening to think about.

There is no reason anyone would invest in Nepal instead of India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. We offer the world absolutely nothing.

  4. what’s making me sad is the villages in the hilly and mountain region except for touristy ones, are going get empty in almost 10 – 20 years time. The land they used for agriculture will all turn in catweed (banmara) forest . The villages will turn into forests and then gradually we will lose our traditional houses , the local technologies …etc. Also the local government is pouring some budget in developing the village infrastructure which will all go in vain as there will be very little people to use it. Migration has people mostly moving to terai and settle in the fertile lands and decrease the cultivating land turning into concrete forest evrywhere.

  5. I am from Pokhara and recently visited Kathmandu after a few years. I was genuinely surprised that the condition of the river had not improved. My expectations were high as I hear many people talking good about Kathmandu nowadays but that river is in dreadful condition.

  6. The unplanned urbanization throughout the cities in three country.
The development if done also is always a step behind like if a drinking water pipe line is to be made it will be planned with the population of today and the whole project will finishes in 4-5 years where the population already exceeds the planned threshold. So, again after few years whole process is again starts. And the collateral damage it causes like road, drainage distruction is seperate.
There is no masterplan today the road department will pitch the road and tomorrow water department will again dig hole and do there work on snail pace with no idea or intrest of if there project will hampers the pole( electricity) so when the time comes for NEA they will do their own work.

  7. You’ve got a good idea but it’s Nepal where everything is fucked up so you can’t expect a good and happy life there . You can make a living but with difficulties and struggles for sure .

  8. When I see “Love from Nepal, Proud to be a Nepali, etc. ” comments flooding in some foreign social media pages if they post anything “not bad” about us. I wish the comments had more content.
It’s not a very bad thing but still kinda shows our internet immaturity.

  9. Caste system. The worse part is hearing people my age and even younger perpetuating this. Nepal, at a societal level is hopeless. No one and nothing can convince me to ever take “castes” seriously. This topic itself makes me wanna puke due to anger and frustration.

Samaj, pariwaar, traditions… fuck all of these.
