  1. The current rise in ethnic clashes are just the undercurrents of the last Civil War, that had until recently been bubbling away under the surface.

The Nepali State since the fall of the Monarchy, promised to uphold equality and social justice, and almost a decade later progress on this front has grinded to a halt.

And historically when inclusive fights for equality fail, the marginalised become radicalised to become extremists, with the latest iteration being Ethnic Mongolian Nationalism.

But this is nothing new; if you remember back during the Constitution’s Promulgation, there was also a massive Madeshi Nationalism movement, fighting against being treated as non-Nepalis.

What I foresee in the future is marginalised communities fighting for equality, but being pushed back by the Reactionary Establishment.

With any small progress leading to radicalisation of the establishment, leading to a rise in Hindu Nationalism. Which India will further support to topple the current Democratic Nepali State.

Nepal is looking more and more like the former Yugoslavia each day, and I don’t foresee the State doing anything about it anytime soon.

And it is not like there aren’t enough extremists to go around, starting just one inciting incident, before we see full blown Manipur level destruction.

  2. seems like it is spreading quick, the conditions are just right. there’s that saying right… don’t underestimate the power of stupid people in groups or something like that

  4. Funnily enough these left liberal media, these so-called intellectuals, these secular progressive breeds never talk about radicalism in the name of pahichan among some Janajati communities, the mass conversion that’s going on, fake news and wild theories being fed that has led to ethnic religious tension.

It’s only the one particular religion and community they target. And this same crowd wonders why people form, join or vote Hindu nationalist parties, why Hindu nationalism is on the rise.

If you are going to address extremism, then do it on all forms of extremism, targeting only one community will only provoke them to get more polarized like in India.

  5. If the situation subsides for a longer term, then well and good. But this issues will keep popping up until and unless there’s a wider power share.

The current predominant Brahmin administration will retain their stronghold by laxing the stance on beef consumption. Because they know the census thats thrown around claiming that Nepal comprises of 80 percent Hindus is a bogus census. It was created in 1991 whilst we still had monarchy in an era that freshly came off Panchayat rule, when the Nepali administrators were passing off every other tamang, rai, limbu, sherchan, magar, gurungs and other non-organised religious communities as Hindus. The census has not taken into consideration the rise of ethnic revivalism since. Hell, the census has not even taken into account of the Christain and Muslim convert either.

And if it does come to conflict – it will not be a clear case of religious conflict, but a full scale ethnic conflict. But i doubt thats understood by the extremist drumming the beat of war.
