After 3 doses of tetanus toxoid (TT) vaccine, we indeed get immunity for 10 years. These 3 doses are usually taken in form of DPT vaccine when we are only weeks old. After that you have to get booster shot of tetanus every 10 years. However, the timing of your booster shot may be influenced by injury or wound management need, as well as pregnancy. Depends on your wound and your previous vaccination status.
Tetanus shots are affective for a minimum of 6 months. If in doubt, take the vaccine. There is no cure for tetanus.
