  1. It’s nothing new. It’s like water. You can enter a bhatti, drink water and leave. Now that water, once bottled cost Rs. 25 in a regular shop. Rs.50 in a decent restaurant. Rs.150 in hotel and Rs.250 in airport.

  2. Markup is perfectly normal. If people are willing to pay, then these businesses will mark it up and sell for profit. The whole reason of opening the business of to make profit, and customers agree to pay — what’s the problem?

  3. When you are in a restaurant you are not just paying for the food but for the service and the ambience. If you just want to pay cost price then you can buy in a cold store and drink/eat the same thing. If film halls and restaurants started selling everything in cost price then how will they pay their staff and recoup the massive investments that they have made? Not saying it’s always worth it but I understand why this is the case.

  4. It is being paid for the abstract product called service and ambience. You are basically paying for the nice feeling you get by visiting the place be it for your body or mind. Some “concerned” consumers like yourself did file a lawsuit in india and supreme court ruled in favor of restaurants. So yes they can charge rs.150 for mineral water bottle.
