What’s the baseline salary needed for a student to manage in the city? Would it be better to rent a room or opt for a hostel? Also, what’s the preferred mode of transportation, and any tips for fitting in seamlessly there? Thank you.

if you are alone, live in hostel. If you have friends, sharing is nice option. we live 4 people in 2bk flat and we each pay 8k per month which covers everything including food.
If you’re a student, live as cheaply as possible because Kathmandu is a very expensive city. A hostel will be good if you want an estimated budget that doesn’t fluctuate much. Also public transportation may not be efficient but it is available and in budget. Plan your place of residence nearby your college.
About fitting in, I feel this city never claims you as it’s own no matter how much one tries. Get your own group of friends and enjoy your time here.
