  1. Exactly I think this way as well. Bachha bela interet khasai use gariyena. Aile jasto sabai ko haat ma mbl 2010/11 samma ma pani thiyena. Bluetooth era hudai lagvak mid teen tira dekhi internet widely use huna thalyo (ghar ghar ma hai) .

  2. I was born in the 90s too and i think people born in 2000s had it better not just because of technology and stuff. In my opinion the primary factor in case of nepal was the maoist civil war. There was a literal war going all throughout the formitive years of 90s born kids. And even after the war, the first few years of peace was really much worse then these days. Kidnaping, extortion and robbery was much more rampant. Every week some stupid party would organise a nepal banda upataka banda and what not.

If i didnt have to witness all that i think i would be a different person. I have a few very young friends born in the early 2000s who dont even seem to have a single memory regarding the war.

Anyway the exposure to technology is subjective because even as early as 2003/4 my family had a dialup internet connection and a PC which we needed to communicate via email with my father who was working abroad. It took like 2hrs to download a 4mb mp3 from songs.pk. but we were connected to the internet. By 2009 most boys in my school had internet because we were playing mafia wars and farmville on facebook. But we were definately some of the previlaged ones in kathmandu though so i guess in terms of more generalised exposure youre timeline would fit.

  3. I was born in the 90s and am glad that I wasn’t born in the early 2000s. I am glad that I was not born in the era of Facebook and Instagram. Facebook and YouTube were gaining traction when I was in my Bachelor level studies. This was in early 2009-10. If I had been born in this technology era, especially in the era of internet and social media, I would have become a clout chaser, validation seeker and an insecure person like many young people are these days. Let’s face it, most of us do not use technology to improve our lives, instead we have become addicted to social media and meaningless entertainment.

These days young people are suffering from depression and loneliness, which was quite unheard-of in my early 20s. I think the internet addiction could be one of the major reasons behind it.

  4. No. What they didn’t get to experience:
    – when cartoon network, nick, disney xd didn’t use to have indian influence. Also the golden age of Cartoons : the ppf girls, samurai jack, Dexter
    – beige computers
    – Sunday holidays
    – Internet cyber
    – flipphones, nokia
    – cd burning, 25rs cd of songs, movies.
    – pokemon, WrestleMania cards
    – no internet influence.
Kids be out there younger than google or Facebook that think their childhood was cool…cockroach nymphs amateurs at life

  5. I don’t think we’ve adapted.

We show apish tribal behavior and online it just makes it significantly worse because you are not talking to a real person.

Even seeing some interactions here is embarrassing, not that I’ve personally not been a part of it

  6. I was born in 90s and I think I got to see the tailend when we had no mobile technology. So there is a frame of reference what it meant to not have technology always on hand. I do think that I am glad that I didn’t have to grow with very addictive technology.

I wouldn’t say one is better than the other. Both are different experiences which the other don’t have.

I don’t think I am impaired in terms of tech in anyways when compared to people who were born a decade later than me. But I work in tech so take it with a grain of salt.

  7. As someone who was born in late 80s almost 90s, I can say our childhood was very easy and stressless. We were teenagers in early 2000s which means no cell phone and very slow internet. Most of us used to spend our time outdoor playing with friends.

We transitioned from landline to nokia and now smartphone. We also watched movie in VCR to VCD to DVD and now online streaming. Good old VCR days.

I feel bad for today’s teenagers. Social media has ruined their life.
