Not sure about can. But they definitely shouldn’t. And they definitely do beat students in Nepal.
I believe Nepal is the only south asian country that has banned physical or mental torture to children whether in school or in home.
I am neither in support nor in against this ban. Many schools still use it as a method to discipline the students. Sometimes it is necessary thing to do for some students (really annoying and undisciplined ones). But if sometimes punishment does worse to a student both physically and mentally.
That being said, children are delicate humans. An adult must always know the better in how to handle children rather than making them their frustration disposal.

If you speak this english in front of your english teacher, yes they can beat you.
Beating students depends upon how much the teacher can tolerate and what activities you have comitted.

I am a computer teacher in a school and we are not allowed to beat students. When I first joined, I beat a student and mistakenly my fingers got his eyes while slapping. His mom came with a Khukuri next day. Luckily I am alive.
