I am visiting Nepal this Dashain and during my stay there I am planning to use my Apple card as it does not charge the foreign transaction fees. I was just wondering if Apple Pay is an accepted form of payment in Nepal yet?
If this does not work, if anybody has any ideas/suggestions on how to easily/economically handle transactions while in Nepal, it would be much appreciated.
Thank you.

I was in Nepal all summer, they don’t have Apple Pay. Half of the places you want to buy something from wont even take card lol, it’s best to bring cash with you to exchange when you get there
Did not know apple pay does not charge international fees. How does one get apple pay? Is it not by linking your regular credit card to apple pay?
use your visa/mastercard to withdraw money from ATM
why not just use the physical card itself? the no foreign fee is from the card, not Apple Pay; using the card should be viable since it is a MasterCard and should be accepted.
Transfer money to your trusted persons bank acc & use their mobile banking. May be your parents.
No Apple Pay.
Amex works rarely. But Master card and Visa works all the time. I am still in nepal and using it here.
You should be able to use the physical card for those places accepting card payment. All the bigger retailers like BhatBhateni, jewelery shops etc. accept the card payment. I use my VISA card that doesn’t charge international transaction fee when in Nepal. For the rest – I either use cash, or fonepay.
Use wallets. Like esewa / khalti /IMEpay ig you don’t have Bank account, and load money in it through friends or Agents
If you have apple card you don’t need apple pay just use the physical card
No.
There are two sides to this story:
1. Nepal is an awfully small market for Apple to show any interest in to launch Apple Pay here.
2. Nepal’s economy is crappy and all the money needs to circulate within the country (and not leave the country to an overseas provider) to make sure it doesn’t come crashing down.
Worked in Bhatbhateni
eSewa, FonePay, credit cards, and cash. FonePay and eSewa seemed like they would’ve been most convenient to have had last Fall when there.
