The thing that I notice about that nobody talks about is how both chhetri and magar shares a lot of common surnames like thapa,rana, gharti and roka and so on. Why is that? They are both different enthic people coming from different place. Were they related in the past or had some kind of relation?

It’s because more than 90% of surnames in Nepal are made up or given who could afford to pay certain money during Jung Bahadhur’s forced conversion of natives and khas people to Hinduism. I know few big chhetri family who used to do kul pujas by cutting pigs few years ago same as so called “lower”castes family.Anyone who does kul puja are actually Khas and were different ethnicity.
