Nepal currently imposes a tobacco tax of just 15.5% of retail price which is the lowest among the South Asian countries

On average, in Nepal the average amount of money spent per year on cigarettes is around 11% of GDP per capita. The recent estimates show around US$1.4 trillion of total economic loss results globally from tobacco use which is equivalent to 1.8% of the world’s annual Gross Domestic Product (GDP). About 40% of this cost occurred in low-income and middle-income countries. In Nepal, around 27 000 deaths occur annually from tobacco use, which comprises about 14.9% of all deaths. In 2018, this tax rate increased to 54.04 percent.

Yo year ko budget ma tobacco tax was untouched again. Nepal sarkar’s plan is basically allow mass death of Nepali people (cigarettes also have huge unaccounted costs like pollution, GDP loss, social impact etc). Another clear case of collusion.
