Had a conversation with a friend and he told me that the Bhauns and the Chettri groups were the ones living in Nepal initially while everyone else has a mix of other countries. How true is this?

There has been no extensive scientific study done in regards to who came when and from where exactly. So, we can’t say for sure.
And I find it funny how this ” we are the first or the native” narrative has been hijacked by certain groups to claim ethnic superiority.
Now, if we take into consideration the present territory of Nepal, then the Bhojpuri/Maithili people are the earliest inhabitants of Nepal.
The gangetic plain is one of the earliest and continuously inhabited regions in the world. People have been living in the region for a very long long time.
So, it suffices to say that maithili people were the earliest ethnic group in Nepal.

I guess its Kirati people according to history book. I guess class 5-6 ma padheko thiye. May be its changed now with all new scientific studies.
Kirat people were migrants from Tibet so not even they were ethnic to Nepal though.
Goapal Yadavs were the earliest group to settle in Nepal.
History le chai Kirati bhanxa. They were there since the Mahabharata period
why does it matter now, when our country is sinking? They are making holes in this ship for some flimsy wood.
‘Turkish Persian Aryan Invader’ yup they are true native to this whole indian sub continent except Dravadians.
Does that matter? Why do we need this atm? Nepal lai k bhanera define garni aba. Kun bela ko Nepal? We have more important shits going on. We should focus on those. Jo sukai aako hos ta pahila aba k matlab bhayo ra.
Everyone has a mix of every countries present day genes. Aba tyo pani present hudaina. Tyo aba naam ho research garna sajilo hunxa bhanera rakheko. Humans ko sabai ko 95% genes same nai hunxa. May be even more. Yo sabai jati ni difference dekhinxa ani arule create garxan yo sabai tyai 5% ma parxa.
Ko pahila ako bhanera khojni kaam Archaelogists ra Historians ko ho tiniharulai nai xodau ho sabai. Aru issue ko barema sochau. Diffference arule create garni ho sansar ma sabaiko lagi. Create garni lai faida hos bhanera. So is here. So productive ra chayini kura garau yesta yesti xodau.

This is Tibetan before it’s meltdown around late 9th century. Similarly Sikkim state used to occupy big chunk of today’s eastern Nepal. And there was Khas State in West. Till early 20th century, indeed till 1960 the term Nepal was used for primarily Kathmandu valley.
The world you’re witnessing is post-1945 phenomena otherwise, India is basically big chunk of British India. Never in any Vedic, or any histories there was a land, called it Bharat, Hindustan or whatever, that was as big of land as present India.
There was once a Great Britain, now if Scotland secedes then it will be tiny British or few Islands. All the ethnic conflicts you’re are watching on news are result violent rise and demise of past empires. For example, Khalistan, read Nepali history books and you be aware of King Ranjit Singh and his empire.
Madhesh Pradesh came into Nepal as property of Junga Bahadur’s for his crucial aid in 1857 rebellion in British India. Most of Middle East or Western Asia was Ottoman Empire. Present day German is Haley’s more than a century and after Bismarck it came into being.
So, before exploring the concepts of identities, do understand the political histories that provide definitions as such. If a big war breaks out in the world, then who knows, how new demarcations of borders will happen. China and India is sure to breakdown in multiple parts, if they become victorious, then future of Nepal is in doubt.
To understand the concept of identities and nation, just read Ukraine history and present unfolding events. Crimea and Donbash is gone, Russia ain’t giving it back.
Btw, you must be post-1990s kid.

Historically the state governing Kathmandu valley is known as Nepal. So it must be the kirantis. Also khas people became Nepali only after khas king PN shah conquered Nepal. Before there were various khas kingdoms stretching from gorkha to Kashmir mostly present day India and western Nepal.
