Vianet launches 2Gbps XGS-PON connection

Nepalese ISP Vianet Communications has the launch of the 's first multi-gigabit broadband connection based on the latest XGS fibre with the of its 2Gbps ‘XGS-Extreme' packages. In a press statement issued on Wednesday, the said the new connections were made possible by an upgrade GPON to 10 Gigabit Symmetrical Passive Optical () technology, which can deliver symmetrical speeds of up to 10Gbps compared with GPON's of maximum speeds of 2.4Gbps (download) and 1.2Gbps (upload).

The new packages initially be available in selected of the , including Lazimpat, Panipokhari, Maharajgunj, Chandol, Gairidhara, and Samakhusi in Kathmandu, as well as Jawalakhel, Ekantakuna, Manbhawan, Kumaripati, Mahalaxmisthan, Pulchowk, Kupondole, Jhanmsikhel, and Dhobighat in Lalitpur. Vianet plans to expand coverage of its XGS throughout the valley ‘very soon'.

Customers a choice of two XGS-Extreme subscription plans enabling connection speeds of 1Gbps (XGS-Extreme Pro) or 2Gbps (XGS-Extreme Pro Plus), both of which access to the company's ‘ViaTV' IPTV .
