The United Kingdom is set to ban TikTok on government phones

According to PA Media, on Thursday, Britain is expected to announce a prohibition on TikTok for government phones, following the example of other Western nations that have banned the Chinese-owned video app due to security concerns.

As a result of concerns that user data from the app, which is owned by Beijing-based company ByteDance, could end up in the hands of the Chinese government and undermine Western security interests, TikTok has been subjected to increasing scrutiny.

The National Cyber Security Centre in Britain has been evaluating whether TikTok should be prohibited from government phones, and the United States, Canada, Belgium, and the European Commission have already banned the app. Security minister Tom Tugendhat previously stated that comprehending the challenges posed by such apps was “incredibly important” when questioned about the possibility of a TikTok ban.

TikTok has indicated that it would be disappointed by such a ban. Later on Thursday, the government is predicted to make a statement about the security of its devices.
