I am 17 years and ….months old. I am currently pursuing my bachelor degree in Computer Engineering in one of the constituent college of IOE (not pulchowk or thapathali though). I have just finished my 1st semester. My exam wasnt that good but somehow i managed to complete my exams.
After the completion of my 12th i was in a dilemma whether to choose abroad or nepal itself for my further studies. I am more than average in my studies too. I wasnt suggested to go abroad as i was just 16 when i completed 12th board so i decided to stay in nepal and choose IT field as i was interested in coding. But again i wasnt sure either to choose Engineering or CSIT. So i started to prepare for both and managed to get admission in one of the constituent clz of IOE [FULL FEE]. But i wasnt ready for Engineering as it is considered as one of the hardest degree. As i am from a middle class family and it is said that Engineering degree is better than csit degree, it would be easy for me to get a job later on.
Days passed by and i was enjoying engineering but along with enjoying it i was regretting it day by day BECAUSE the reality of IOE, its education system, and mainly the 20 years OLD COURSE is different. I always ask myself,”What if i couldn’t do better after my degree?” “What if choosing engineering in Nepal was my worst decision?” Bla bla…..
I see my friends learning java python in 1st semester and here i am learning drawing, physics, electrical in 1st semester. I always regret each day each night.
I just need suggestions from everyone that Is choosing computer engineering in nepal was my good decision?
Or what else could i do for my better future?
Should i continue it?

I think its never a bad thing to learn new things out of your interest. Computer Engineering is about learning depth and details of computer architecture including hardwares and softwares. Just grind on, trust me once you are all rounder you will feel more confident in your domain and you will have fair advantages in later future.

Bro don’t worry about it. You have chosen a right field. Try to get into embedded stuff. It will lead you to high paying roles. Just learn hardware stuff and learn to program in C and C++. Python you can learn on your own. Learning to program in c or C++ will lead you to be better programmer especially for embedded systems or hardware. There aren’t a lot of people going into embedded systems programming. Don’t worry about what your friends or peers are doing. You are here to carve your own path. Computer Engineering is a great discipline and will lead you to different career roles. Trust the process and stop swinging from one field to another based on what you see from your friends. Even thought it might be 20 years old, hardware stuff is almost the same and c/c++ is not much different. Learning from hardware level will make you a better computer programmer or engineer than those with just software knowledge

Tbh, bachelor’s is just for the degree, the skills u learn are all upto you. I’m doing BEIT and same as u, I regret joining it and feel like I should have joined the software faculty instead. And my software friends wish they’d joined other majors. But it all comes down to how u utilize ur time. Along with ur academic studies, u need to learn the programming languages or things ur interested in. College ma matra padhakole kehi vyaidaina. I have a padhante classmate who keeps pestering the teachers saying “WHY DO TOPPERS WITH 4 GPA STILL NOT GET JOBS AFTER GRADUATION?” lmao
if you only wanted to be a software developer (not someone who works on hardware and software that interacts with hardware) then you should have chosen any IT courses. Computer engineering bhaneko ta computer hardware ma interested manxe le matra padeko ramro natra time waste ho. And about job, Your skill level determines whether you can get a job or not. and you are studying engineering lol ramro sanga yo 4 years ma timile kei skill ni sikhna sakdainau (padhai le dhostai time waste garxa timro) XD. if you just started bachelor’s then it is better to drop out and join any IT only course and focus on your skills.
