Here’s what happened. I went to BRT from KTM for my dashain-tihar vacation and during my 1-month break, I ate countless fast foods and Kurkure(my favourite) was one of them. Now that I am returning to KTM I just realised that our MRP laws and not so strictly enforced in these matters. In the packaging of Indian Kurkure, which is made of plain corn and is way better than ours(my taste),
there was a “20 INR” printed on the top left corner
which meant that MRP should be INR 20 = NRS 36 including tax and transport and all ( which I don’t see how that is my problem but still..), it should be 40 because it is MRP for us consumers and not the rate at which retailers buy so they have more or less margin added in that 40 rs. Regardless law doesn’t hear what people have to say right? Either you increase your MRP or enforce them properly! Either way, I just wanted to raise this topic to see how MRP works and if is It ok for retailers to just take around 40% margin (assuming) just like that. It does matter since we deal with this in our everyday lives.

Yeah, not enforced properly, especially in places where there is very less competition (rural areas). However, enforced very well in renowned supermarkets and city areas. But in India manufactured goods, sometimes there tends to be a higher cost even in these supermarkets maybe due to import duty. Depends.
Not at all. You pay whatever they ask for or fuck off. That’s how my experience is.
In last couple of weeks, I have had argument with 4/5 shopkeepers on this matter.

The importers are at fault, I talked about same thing with a baje who has a store nearby my house and he says that they can barely get Rs.5 profit from selling one pack.

the free market should determine the price, especially when transportation cost vary wildly across Nepal.
Nepal is a democratic country so people are allowed to sell at whatever they want.

MRP = Minimum Retail Price, not Maximum

Almost nepal vari ko sab shop ma teti nai prxa so kasaile kei vandaina. Jun pasal ma/harek mart haru ma paune product haru ko mrp vanda badi price lige ni kei vandaina, kasaile kei action ni linna.
Tara specific brand wala product jstai patanjali ko product haru jun xai tesko aafno pasal ma matra pauxa tini haru le badi lina paudaina. MRP jati ho teskai ma bechnu parxa. Aafnai manxe pathayera saman lyaune ho vane thavayena tara yesto shop haru ko main dealer Nepal vari ma euta matra xa. Yedi uni main dealer haru le aafu le deko saman MRP vanda badi ma becheko thapayo vane tyo shop lai ban garxa feri kaile saman didaina.
Tesaile aafu le kineko saman hru ma kei chitta bujena vane tesko company bare search garnu ani complain garnu.
