Kaji Jung Bahadur and his brothers, massacre about 40 civil, military officers, palace guards and senior ministers in 1846 at the Kot( palace armory) of Hanuman Dhoka, Kathmandu. The massacre was the fallout of a meeting called by Rani Rajya Laxmi Devi.

The Rani had called for a meeting following the murder of her confidante Gagan Singh Bhandari, that soon turned ugly and would lead to the massacre. It would lead to Jung Bahadur, establishing the Rana monarchy in Nepal, and loss of power of the Pandes, Thapas there.

Are there any books to read about past Nepal history? It would be best if they were written in Nepali.
Recently, I read a book on Nepali Political history by Pitamber lal Yadav, it was an interesting read and came to know knowledge of rise of Royal rule and its politics through out nepalese history. Writer has done really good references in the book itself, and to me it seems like he has done well studied in the subject matter and put out a nice history book, not a perfect but a good book(I was told that writer was non-political). All those years how Thapa and Pandy bandhus has fought internally and how they always look out of favor of ruler or or make ruler as a pony if they are weak. JB was one who exceeded as later. There were so many murders happened during that era, it is unbelievable compare with modern political situation in Nepal. Probably, may be it is less due to so called “democratic” system.
