Bikes vs Cars? Which is better for a city like Kathmandu?

Traffic jam ma suneko hola “Bike le garda jam huncha”. Bike wala le “Micro le garda bhancha”. Micro le “Private car le” bhancha. What is your thought?

Here’s my opinion: If we remove all cars and replaced them with bikes there would be no traffic jam. However, if we simply removed the bikes there would still be traffic jam in Kathmandu. Every crowded city should optimize their throughput by giving priority to high occupancy modes of transport. So I think Kathmandu should give priority to pedestians first, bicycles second, public transport third, motorbikes fourth and cars last.

  1. When public transport becomes reliable, clean, and safe, I’ll sell off my car and won’t look back.

    I don’t prefer bikes because:

    1) Highly unsafe.
    2) I’ll start coughing if the wind hits my chest.
    3) Pollution and varying weather conditions throughout the year.

Also, I believe that bikes cause most of the traffic jam simply because majority fail to abide by lane rules. Also, road etiquettes are non-existent in people who operate bikes and public transport. Yes, I said what I said.

  2. If your query is pure utility based then, the bicycles with motor assists are the perfect vehicles for life in KTM. Motor assist will govern you enough speed and just the right amount of incline assist, bicycle body will get you thru every alley, shortcuts, jams etc. You can ride in footpaths and roads alike. 1.5 lakh around ma aucha euta good one.
