Nepal Finance Minister Advocates for Increased World Bank Support in Washington Meeting

Nepal’s Finance Minister, Barsa Man Pun, recently met with Akihiko (Aki) Nishio, Vice President of Development Finance, and Guangzhe Chen, Vice President for Infrastructure, at the World Bank in Washington. During the meeting, Minister Pun expressed gratitude to Vice Chairman Akihiko (Aki) Nishio for agreeing to host the 21st meeting of the International Development Association (IDA) in Nepal, stressing the need for enhanced World Bank involvement in the country.

Minister Pun urged the World Bank to consider increasing subsidiary loans and aid to Nepal to bolster its development endeavors. He highlighted the crucial role of such support in advancing the nation’s progress.

Furthermore, Minister Pun applauded the World Bank’s contribution to vital infrastructure projects in Nepal, including the 1,063 Megawatt Arun Project and the 635 Megawatt Dudh Koshi Project. He emphasized the positive impact of these initiatives on Nepal’s energy sector.

The meeting reaffirmed Nepal’s dedication to building partnerships with international organizations like the World Bank to accelerate its socio-economic development goals.
