From massive tax fraud and parliamentary deadlock to social media storms and unexpected turns in international diplomacy, Nepal is witnessing a whirlwind of major developments that are grabbing headlines and shaking up the public narrative.
💸 Biggest Tax Evasion Scandal in Years!
The Department of Revenue Investigation has filed a shocking case at Patan High Court against Nepal Can Move Pvt. Ltd. (NCM) and its directors for evading taxes worth Rs. 1.37 Arba. Key accused, including Sudip Acharya and Jeevan Gyawali, allegedly stashed their portal server in Australia to dodge Nepal’s tax system and manually forged VAT and income records from FY 2076/77 to 2081/82.
The accused are now on the run, and the department is demanding full recovery with penalties. This may become one of the largest corporate fraud cases in Nepal’s recent history.
🏛️ Samsad in Crisis: Bhisā Bhanda Bhanda, Parliament Paralysed
Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) and Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) have brought House proceedings to a standstill, demanding Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak’s resignation over the Visit Visa Scam.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister KP Oli called the opposition’s actions “politically motivated drama” and insists on pushing the agenda forward.
Although a two-point agreement involving CIAA investigation was reached, top Maoist leader Narayan Kaji Shrestha expressed dissatisfaction, calling it an unfair compromise. Rajendra Lingden labeled it “a pact to protect loot culture.”
